How to play craps online guide

Online Craps Guide

Craps has been around longer than most other casino games and is a favorite at the land-based venues, but not so much online yet. People seem to think Craps is a complex, hard to understand the game, and maybe get nervous when they see all the different strategies that could apply in gameplay. We have written this guide to show that Craps online is a game everyone can enjoy (once you're 21 years old or above) and doesn't take much to go from beginner to pro!

Play Craps Online

When it comes to Craps online, players should understand a few key terms. For starters, online Craps is mostly a guessing game that is based on the two dice rolled on the table. Players will wager on what they believe the dice will come out to be and place their bets.

So you have found a game of Craps online and have decided to take a chance. By rolling the dice, you are now the "shooter" and the "come out roll" is what starts the game off. Once the dice are rolled and appear on your screen, you have three potential ways this could turn out:

  • You roll a 2, 3, or 12 which means you lose, but still, have a chance at redemption. This is called Craps.
  • You roll a 7 or 11, congratulations! You win and get dice back, which is called a Natural
  • You roll a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10. Now, you need to roll again and hope you repeat the sum of the number you just rolled but be careful not to roll a 7 here or you lose and the round ends! This outcome is called the Point

Craps Betting Rules

Now that you know how to shoot Craps, it's time to learn the types of bets available to place. Players need to wager on the potential outcome that can come from the first roll, either a Pass Line bet or a Don't Pass Line bet.

If you think the shooter will hit a 7 or 11 (a Natural) or successfully rolls a Point and win the round, you make a Pass Line Bet

If you think the shooter will lose and Crap out, you make a Don't Pass Line bet.

These bets are placed before the "come out roll." Once a point has been established, players can now make Come or Don't Come Bets.

The Come Bet is won if the shooter manages to roll a 7 or 11 right away or if they successfully roll a Point round, pretty much the same as the Pass Line Bet.

The Don't Come Bet is the opposite of a Come Bet and is won if the shooter rolls a 2, or 3, or if another number is rolled (new "point") you want to see a 7 come up on the dice before the new "point" number.

There also one-roll bets players can place at any time on any roll.

  • Any Craps: Shooter rolls a 2, 3, or 12.
  • Any Seven: Shooter rolls a 7.
  • Horn: Shooter rolls a 2, 3, 11, or 12.
  • Ace Deuce: Shooter rolls a 3.
  • Boxcars: Shooter rolls a 12.
  • Aces: Shooter rolls a 2.

Online Craps Strategies

Since Craps is all about the outcome of the dice which is something players can not control, there isn't a set strategy that will help you win, but there are tips you can use to help you place bets with better odds than others.

Players should remember that Craps is a game of chance and that no roller has a special skill that will allow them to hit better dice than the others. We don't recommend chasing or betting on "hot streaks" as those will end eventually, and that betting systems do no work in online Craps.

Craps already has a great house edge compared to other casino games, with only 1.41%. If you're lucky enough to find a PA online casino offering a generous welcome bonus that can be used in a game of Craps, it's a great way to get used to the rules and figure out which bets have more favorable odds.

Odds in Craps

Knowing the odds of any number being rolled, especially before a 7, could be beneficial for a player in a game of Craps.

For example, the odds of rolling a 5 before 7 using the dice is 6 to 4 because there are six ways to get 7 versus four ways to get 5.

  • Possible dice combinations for 7 are (1 + 6, 2 + 5, 3 + 4, 6 + 1, 4 + 3, 5 + 2).
  • Possible dice combinations for 5 are (1 + 4, 2 + 3, 3 + 2, 4 + 1).

Now, an entire game of Craps online has thirty-six possible combinations that the two dice can make. If we compare that to our previous odds, this means you have a four in thirty-six chance of rolling a 5 at any time during the game, or one in nine.

The odds against rolling a 5 would be 8 to 1 because of the eight chances you won't hit a 5 versus the one time you will which makes a total of nine possible rolls. In Craps this is called the "true odds" and can be applied to any number.
